In Palembang (Sumatera), Styrax benzoin is often called haminjon durame or kunayan batu, and Styrax sumatrana is called haminjon toba or kumayan putih. S. sumatrana produces a better quality of white and clean resin, while that of Styrax benzoin is reddish-brown. The plants yielded 3 grades of benzoin resin : the first grade is menyan putih or menyan sodokan with white colour, the second grade is menyan sesetan or menyan itam baik and the third grade is menyan itam jahat which is dark black in colour. | |||||
