| Remarks | De Materia Medica, written by Dioscorides, states that the roots of Gentiana are warm in nature and astringent. In Europe, the fresh roots are mashed, soaked in water, and the juice is then extracted. This preparation has traditionally been used for the treatment of pain, lacerations, spasms, liver and stomach disorders, and inflammation of the eyes. Powdered Gentiana is administered orally at a dose of 0.1 g, three to five times daily. | |||||
