Common usesFlowers have anthelmintic, astringent, diuretic, depurative, aphrodisiac and tonic properties. They are used as emmenagogue and as a poultice in orchitis and to reduce swellings, for bruises and sprains. They are also effective in leprosy, leucorrhoea/leucorrhea and gout. A decoction of the flowers is given in diarrhoea/diarrhea and to purpeureal women. Flowers are used against antifertility. Poultice of flowers is applied to cure swollen and hanging testicles of children.

Pharmacological effectAlcoholic extract of the flowers exhibit significant antioestrogenic activity in mice. Aqueous extract of the flower showed hepato-protective activity against CC14 induced liver injury in albino rats.
