Common usesDried inflorescence (fruit) is aphrodisiac, stimulant, diaphoretic, galactagogue, anthelmintic and is used to stop diarrhoea/diarrhea.

Fruit decoction is used as an expectorant in asthma. Dried sliced fruit is useful as an aromatic adjunct to other medicines.

Fruits contain glucosidin colouring substances - scindapsin A and Scindapsin B.

Pharmacological effectFruit and shoot exhibit hypoglycaemic activity and the fruit has anti-protozoal activity. The aqueous extract or decoction of the fruits showed significant analgesic and anti-diarrhoeal activites in albino rats. The decoction did not exhibit any toxicity upto 10ml/kg.

CommentsThere are other plants also used as Gajapippali. They are Balanophora indica, Piper chaba etc.
But according to authentic publications Scindapsus officinalis is recommended for use as Gajapippali.
