Pharmacological effectCathartic (flavonoid glycoside, multilforin A). Peripheral vasodilation. Diskinesia and respiratory failure are caused in high doses. Caution needed.

RemarksA daily decoction dose is 2-5 grams. An excessive dose may induce over catharsis. Yingshi is seldom used in China. The allied species of Rosa multiflora Thunberg are R. wichuraiana Crepin (Jap. name: Terihanoibara), R. luciae Franch. et Roschebr. fujisanensis (Makino) Makino (Jap. name: Fujiibara) and others. Recently, large size fruits was circulated in the market under the name of Yingshi, produced in China or North Korea, which is the accessory fruit of R. davurica Pallas. They don't have cathartic effect, however are applied to malignant suppurative infection on body surface and bruise as a detoxicant.
