Distribution area | Occurs in India, Ceylon, Malaya, Australia, Polynesia and Philippine islands. It is common in the low country in Ceylon on banks of streams and rivers, especially near the coast. | ||||
Common uses | Karanja is acrid and hot and used in the treatment of vaginal diseases, skin diseases like scabies, eczema, leprosy, ulcers, intestinal obstruction, phantom tumour, piles, abdominal and splenic enlargement. Roots are good for cleaning foul ulcers, cleaning teeth, strengthening gums and gonorrhoea. A root paste is used for local application in scrofulous enlargements. Juice of the roots is used in the treatment of gonorrhoea. | ||||
