RemarksIt is a controversial Ayurvedic drug. Usmanghani and Aftab (1997) have described this drug under different botanical name Echinops echinatus Roxb. (Fam. Asteraceae). It is an addition by Unani physicians in their Materia Medica.

The plant mentioned by Usmanghani and Aftab (1997) may not be the correct source of Ayurvedic drug - Barham-Dandi. It is a different plant which is found wild in India and is used under different drug - Oont katara (Camel's Thistle).

Avicenna (Ibn Sina) and Ibn al-Baytar have not mentioned this drug.
