Description | It is somewhat like Amlaj (Phyllanthus emblica Linn.) in taste. The pulp is as sweet as hazelnut. | |||||
Function and properties | Alimentary organs, Excretion. Digestive, laxative, detersive, astringent, tonic for brain, eye and digestive tract. According to Avicenna (Ibn Sina) it possesses dual properties that of loosening the bowels as well as causing constipation. | |||||

Common uses | Alimentary organs: It strengthens the stomach by improving its capacity of coction and assimilation and is helpful in relaxity and moistness of the stomach. Excretion: Sometimes it may cause constipation but physicians believe it to be only laxative. It is useful for rectum and anus. It is also useful for piles. | |||||
Side effect | As single remedy or in compound (trifal), its prolonged uninterrupted use is not advised. It may be harmful for intestines and anus. | |||||
