Remarks | The origin of using the fruit of Shironanten (Nandina domestica var. lleucocarpa) or Nanten (Nandina domestica) as an antitussive in Japan is not clear. However, it seems that the knowledge was not brought from China. There are Shironanten and Akananten in the market. Since Shironanten which bears white fruit is more appreciated in the market, bleached red fruits of Nanten are mass-marketed. They have no luster nor lamina, and the pericarp is thinner. | |||||
