| Remarks | Seeds of Astragalus chinensis L. in Tianjin, A. adsurgens Pall. and A. sinicus L. in Jiangsu are used as Shayuanzi (沙苑子) respectively. There are fake products such as mature seeds of Crotalaria yaihsienensis T. Chen and C. retusa L., produced in the area of Haikang Zhanjiang are called Jiashayuan (假沙苑), and C. mucronata Desv., produced in Hainan and Fujian are called Tushayuan (土沙苑) or Jiashayuan (假沙苑). Care must be taken because the mature seeds of these species contain alkaloids which may cause poisoning. In Tianjin, the seeds of Swainsonia salsula Taubert of family Leguminosae are called Kumadou (苦馬豆) and also infrequently used as Shayuanzi. | |||||
