RemarksIn case Chuanlianzi derived from Melia toosendan Sieb. et Zucc. (Jap. name: Tōsendan) was insufficient, the fruit of congener M. azedarach L. var. azedarach (Jap. name: Tokiwasendan) is sometimes substituted for it. The fruit of M. azedarach L. var. subtripinnata Miq., Japanese Sendan, is not available in the market.
Kurenpi is the bark or root bark of Tōsendan or Tokiwasendan. Though it has the same effects as Chuanlianzi, the bark has stronger insecticidal effect and the fruit has stronger analgesic effect. Nimba is Melia azadirachta L. (= Azadirachta indica A. Juss.). It is a typical Ayurvedic drug and the parts used are the bark, leaf, flower, fruit and seed.
