RemarksIn Japan, the slender roots of Aralia cordata Thunb. of family Araliaceae are called Wakyokatsu. They are used together with Duhuo (Araliae Cordatae Rhizoma, Jap. name: Dokukatsu).
Japanese Duhuo and Wadokukatsu, Korean Duhuo, Chinese Kyugan-Dokukatsu (Jap. name) are all, as a rule, the rhizomes of Udo (Aralia cordata Thunb.) and listed in the Japanese standards for non-Pharmacopoeial crude drugs (1989). Chokyokatsu as well as Kenkyokatsu, both Japanese products, are the roots and rhizomes of Shishiudo, Angelica pubescens Maxim. of family Umbelliferae.
