Clinical applicationAs a laxative and diuretic, Tinglizi is applied for various kinds of edemas. As an antitussive, it is applied for dyspnea with wheezing, dropsy with excess syndrome and asthma.

[Indications] Excessive phlegm and slobber obstructing the lung, panting and cough with profuse sputum, distention and fullness in the chest and the hypochondrium, hard to lie down, hydrothorax and ascites, inhibited urination.

RemarksCurrently Tinglizi available in the Japanese market is all from China, but it has some botanical sources.
Himegunbainazuna in Japanese name, Lepidium apetalum Willd. listed in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia as "Bei Tinglizi", is found in Noatheast China.
Kujiragusa in JP, Descurainia sophia (L.) Webb. ex Prantl is also listed in the Chinese Pharamcopoeia as "Nan Tinglizi" and found in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Xian, Jilin, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Hebei and other Provinces.
Additionally, the seeds of Lepidium virginicum L. (found in Liaoning, Jilin, Hebei and other Prov.; Mamegunbainazuna in JP), Rorippa montana (Wall.) Small (Anhui and Jiangxi Porv.), Rorippa indica (L.) Hochr. (Inugarashi in JP) are also used.
