Common uses | Seeds (fruits) are mainly used in medicine as an aromatic, carminative, antipyretic and anthelmintic. Oil from the seeds (Indian dill oil) is a wellknown remedy for flatulence in children and enters into the preparation of gripe water. Oil is used on a large scale in pharmacy as a substitute for the oil of European dill. Oil and its emulsion in water are considered stomachic, diuretic and anthelmintic. | ||||

Traditional usage | 1. Satapuspa (Anethum sowa) should be taken with honey and ghee. It promotes intellect within a month. 2. Paste of linseed, castor seeds and Satapuspa pounded with milk should be applied externally to remove pain in arthritis predominant of Vata. 3. Oil is prepared with decoction of Satapuspa, Kustha (Saussurea lappa) and Madhuka (liquorice) separately. It alleviates pain in arthritis. 4. In dry piles, the haemorrhoids/hemorrhoids should be fomented with lumps of Vaca (Acorus calamus) and Satapuspa warm mixed with unctuous substances. 5. Paste of Satapuspa mixed with rock salt and ghee should be applied. It counter acts the poison. 6. Satapuspa alleviates the disorders of female genital tract and provides healthy progeny. | ||||
