Features:
Root is also hot and dry. The root of Badiyan is whitish in colour and is used as a crude drug separately. Fruit about 6mm long, greenish yellow, the vittae very conspicuous. Odour - pleasant; aromatic; taste - sweet.

Distribution areaExtensively cultivated in India. Apparently a native of S. Europe, but now distributed over temperate and subtropical regions of the world.
Function and propertiesThe root is concoctive or maturating for phlegm. It is also diuretic.
Specific actionsTonic for digestive tract (especially stomach) and for eyesight.

Common usesThe root is used in phlegmatic and atrabilious disorders. Its root is powdered with water and painted over the bite of mad dog. The root acts as maturating in phlegmatic diseases.
Side effectIt causes constipation when taken along with its root. It is slow to digest. Its decoction with wine is useful in insect bite cases. Its powdered root is painted over the bite of mad dog.
