There are many; the more common of them are: (1) "Bhokri" or "Abi", common variety; (2) "Kali" or black or "Hafshi" a long fleshy grape of two kinds; (3) "Abai" a large, round, white, watery grape; (4) "Phakdi" a long somewhat fleshy, white grape; (5) "Sahebi" or "Kerni", a long, white sweet grape; (6) "Bedana" the seedless, a small, round, sweet and white grape; (7) "Sultani" or "Royal", a large, round, bitter, white grape; (8) "Gulabi"; (9) "Neelum" and (10) 2Kandhari".
Ripe dried grapes (along with their skins) are called large raisins.

Nutritive, concoctive, deobstruent, laxative, tonic, producer of (good) blood, resolvent, detersive, tonic for stomach, intestines and liver, aphrodisiac and fattening.

Common usesHead and chest: Large variety (2-5 Nos.) when heated over a metal plate on the burner and given to children suffering from lung congestion (of cold origin) proves effective. Raisins in a quantity of about 10gm. kept in aqua rosa overnight and taken in the night following straining proves useful in cardiac debility particularly palpitation. Being detersive for lungs regarded as useful in hoarseness and cough (due to phlegmatic disorders).

Food: It is given to the patients who take diet prescribed for one under regimen. It is only given (to patients) orally in place of ordinary diet.

Swellings: It is painted on swellings to resolve them.

Ulcer: It is also used as an embrocation against malignant ulcers.

Excretion: The use of raisin and grapes along with their skins and seeds is suitable in intestinal colic. The raisin is also useful for kidney and bladder (ailments).
Side effectImmediately plucked grapes cause relaxation of the bowels and are also flatulent. However, all varieties of grapes are somewhat harmful to the bladder.
Large quantity or continuous use of large raisin exerts adverse effects on the kidneys.

Drug effectTraditional literature of Unani mentions that raisins are nutritive, fattening, aphrodisiac and cardiac tonic.
CommentsIt is used both in Unani and Ayurvedic Systems of Medicine.
`Inab is the Arabic name of grape. Its two products i.e. vinegar and wine have been used in food from ancient times. The medicinal importance of vinegar was first demonstrated by Hippocrates. During the time of Prophet, vinegar was generally prepared from Grapes and Dates. Grape vinegar was known as Khall al-`Inab. The Prophet said, ''Vinegar is a comfort for man''.
The Prophet said, ''Wine is the key (source) of all evils''. The Prophet said, ''Wine is not a medicine (in any amount). It is a disease''.

RemarksIt is an important drug and is described by Unani physicians. The drug otherwise, is easily available and have no problem of adulteration.

Raisins have been highly esteemed in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh from a very remote period.b "Sultanas" are the dried fruits of a seedless variety largely cultivated in Greece. They are recommended in certain forms of anaemia/anemia and wasting diseases.
