Distribution areaGrapes are largely cultivated in North-Western India, in the Punjab and Kashmir. It also occurs in Baluchistan and Afghanistan.
DescriptionKishmish has various kinds. But the best one is the greenish-yellow raisin (after drying) which is used as drug and it occurs in Afghanistan and Baluchistan. The taste is sweetish.
Function and propertiesSkin, Head, Chest, Food, Excretion.

Nutritive, cardiac tonic, concoctive, laxative, resolvent, detersive, aperient and liver tonic.
Specific actionsFattening, nutritive and cardiac tonic.
Frequency in useVery common.
Common usesSkin: Externally applied on the inflammations as concoctive and resolvent. Also useful detersive for the sores and ulcers.

Head: Being detergent it s used as plaster with sibr (aloes) on the head in baldness.

Chest: It is exhilarant and cardiac tonic and is useful in palpitation and weakness of the heart. Being detersive for lungs regarded as useful in hoarseness and cough (due to phlegmatic disorders).

Food: It is nutritive and it provides a lot of energy. It is fattening and laxative.

Excretion: It is an aphrodisiac.
Side effectExcess use of the ripe fruits (raisins) may cause loose motions. Large quantities or continuous use exert warm effects particularly on the urinary organs. Traditional literature of Unani discusses the same fruit under different headings e.g. Kishmish, Angur and Mawaiz.

According to others it is hot and dry in the first degree.
