Distribution areaIt occurs in the montane forests in Irian Jaya (Indonesia) in lime soil [201]. The bark is only used by people in some islands of Indonesia: Sumatra, Jawa, Borneo and Bali.
DescriptionThe plant is an evergreen tree. Barks are grey and red inside; they taste and smell like spices, hot, dry. It is pungent and gives warming sensation in the mouth cavity. The leaves are leathery with small flowers [222].

Traditional usageTraditionally it is made into a paste and rubbed to warm the body during cold or rainy days. In Java and Bali, it is sometimes mixed with other aromatic ingredients, such as sandalwood and clove to improve the aroma.
It is commonly used as an ingredient in Indonesian traditional medicine together with sintok wood (Cinnamomum sintok) and is called "sintok-mesoyi". Mesoyi is used with other ingredients in a medicine for leucorrheal discharge.
As a traditional medicine, it is used to treat stomach cramp, diarrhea, convulsion in pregnancy.
It sometimes is used as an incense. [201, 222].
Formulation1) Leucorrhea:
 - Ingredients: 1 piece of Mesoyi bark (size of an adult finger), 1 handful of Parameria barbata bark, a half of Quercus lusitanica gall, 5 pieces of Kaempferia rotunda rhizomes, 6 pieces of Piper cubeba fruits, 3 pieces of flower buds of clove, 1 piece of Terminalia chebula fruit, 10 pieces of Nigella sativa seeds.
 - All ingredients are boiled with 120 ml of water to make 100 ml of decoction. Drink the decoction once a day for 7 days [231].

2) Asthma and pain:
Drink the decoction of bark as a tea [231].
