DescriptionFeatures:
The fruit is a capsule measuring 5 to 8mm in diameter, depressed globose, glabrous, circumscissile near the base. It is indehiscent, 4 seeded. Mature seeds smooth, about 0.4 to 0.6mm in diameter, brownish or black in colour, convex on one side to concave on the other. The seeds are devoid of any odour but possess a characteristic bitter taste.

Distribution areaA parasitic climber, common throughout the plains of India, ascending the hills upto 8,000ft. It is also found in Iran.
DescriptionKasus seeds have resemblance with radish seeds. The seeds are reddish-yellow or yellowish-white in colour.

RemarksKasus is listed among vegetable drugs used exclusively in Unani medicine. Kasus and Aftimun e-hindi belong to the same plant - Cuscuta reflexa. The seeds of this plant is known as Kasus, while the whole kreeper is called Aftimun e-hindi. Aftimun vilayiti is an exotic species and is mentioned by Avicenna (Ibn Sina) under the drug - Aftimun (Eng. Epithyme).
