Common uses | Food: It is used extensively as a spice in the preparation of foods for getting benefit of its fragrance. It is used in tooth powders to strengthen the gums. Head and heart: It exerts exhilarant action on heart and brain. Chest: On respiratory organs exerts stimulating effects and thus brings expectoration. To relieve cough and asthma bark is bruised in honey and given in small doses as linctus. It is given alone or with other suitable drugs in coryza and catarrh. Alimentary organs: It is tonic to stomach and liver. It tonifies stomach and liver and causes astringency in intestines. It is incorporated in such prescriptions which are useful in dysentery. Excretion: It is also aphrodisiac and emmenagogue. To bring menses, bark decoction is given under proper doses. | |||||
Side effect | It is harmful for the individuals who are suffering from kidney ailments. Cassia bark is taken orally in case of snake poisoning. | |||||

Remarks | It is considered substitute for Ceylon cinnamon. Chinese cassia (Arabic - Qirfah) is obtained from Cinnamomum cassia Blume, imported into India, via Singapore and Hong Kong. Sometimes used as substitutes. The Arab and Indian Unani physicians have described this drug. | |||||
