Traditional usage | 1. Juice of pounded fruit should be taken in bleeding. 2. Paste of ripe fruits of Udumbara (Ficus glomerata), Gambhari (Gmelia arborea), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), Kharjura (dates) and Draksa (grapes) separately mixed with honey should be taken to alleviate internal haemorrhage/hemorrhage. 3. In epistaxis, the ripe fruits of Udumbara mixed with jaggery or honey is useful. 4. Tender leaves of Vata (Ficus benghalensis), Udumbara, Asvattha (Ficus religiosa), Plaksa (Ficus lacour), Lotus etc., are astringent, checking and cold and as such useful in diarrhoea/diarrhea caused by Pitta. 5. Leaf buds of Vata, Udumbara and Asvattha are pounded and then kept in hot water for 24 hours. With this infusion ghee is cooked and taken after mixing 1/2 sugar and 1/4 honey. It checks haemorrhage be it upwards or downwards. 6. The patient of sprue like syndrome should eat tender fruits of Udumbara steamed and then mixed with curd. 7. To pacify excessive digestive fire one should take the paste of Udumbara mixed with woman's breast milk or payasa (rice milk) prepared with the above two. 8. Ash of Udumbara bark mixed with honey and ghee controls hiccough. 9. Juice of decoction of ripe fruit of Udumbara mixed with sugar alleviates thirst particularly caused by Pitta. 10. Udumbara fruit rubbed in an iron vessel with women's breast milk and fumigated with Sami (Prosopis cineraria) leaves mixed with ghee removes burning, pain, redness, lachrymation and tingling sensation. 11. The woman suffering from menometrorrhagia should take juice of the fruits of Udumbara mixed with honey keeping on diet of milk and sugar. 12. Powdered red rice should be given with decoction of Udumbara fruits sweetened with sugar and honey to check miscarriage. 13. In slimy and lax vagina, oil pressed out of sesamum impregnated six times with Udumbara latex and cooked with decoction of the same should be kept in Vagina. 14. External application of latex of Udumbara on the boils subside them. | |||
