Traditional usage | 1. Juice of Dhattura (Datura metel) leaves mixed with sugar and taken in dose of 125 ml alleviates all types of fever. 2. Juice of Dhattura leaves is an excellent destroyer of organisms. 3. Juice of Dhattura leaves mixed with mercury or juice of heated leaves destroys ticks and lice by local application. 4. Mustard oil should be cooked with Dhattura seeds along with alkaline water of Manaka. It removes cracks of feet immediately. 5. Seeds of Dhattura used in increasing doses with cold water destroys severe filaria. 6. Pills made of Dhattura seeds pounded with the decoction of Kustha (Saussurea lappa) for eight days each weighing about 30 mg. These act as astringent and are useful in chronic coryza. 7. Dhattura and white Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa) are good remedies for rabies. 8. The patient of rabies should eat cakes prepared with Sarapunkha (Tephrosia purpurea) root 10 gm and Dhattura 10 gm mixed with rice and pounded with rice water while covered with Dhattura leaves. 9. Fruits of Dhattura and root of Kakodumbara (Ficus hispida) taken with vinegar or rice water destroys rabies. 10. The person who takes one fruit of Dhattura pounded with decoction of Asana root becomes free from rabies. 11. In alopecia, the nearby vein should be punctured and the surface is scarified deeply and pasted with juice of Dhattura leaves and Bhallataka (Semecarpus anacardium). 12. Ezcema and ring worm are destroyed by local application of the juice of leaves of Dhattura, Nimba (neem) and betel separately. 13. Application of the juice of Mandukaparni (Centella asiatica) and paste of the Dhattura root destroys boils. 14. Application of the paste of Haridra (turmeric) and Dhattura fruits removes pain in breast. 15. Payasa (rice with milk) cooked with northen root of white Dhattura and mixed with jaggery and ghee alleviates all types of insanity. | ||||
